Online booking for Aakash tablet starts.....!

DataWind, the Canadian company that is manufacturing Aakash, has started the online booking and pre booking of the much anticipated low cost Android tablet. Online booking is for students' version of the tablet and pre booking is for UbiSlate 7, the upgraded version of Aakash.

Students' version of Aakash will be available for Rs 2,500 and will be delivered in seven days. The commercial version, UbiSlate 7 is priced at Rs 2,999. The payment mode for both the tablets is cash on delivery.
The commercial version of Aakash tablet will be powered by Android 2.3 and will have a resistive touchscreen, Cortex A8-700 MHz processor and graphics accelerator HD video processor, 256 MB of RAM and 2 GB of internal memory.
Other specifications are a one standard USB port, 3.5 mm audio jack, a 7 inch display with 800 x 480 pixel resolution, resistive touchscreen, GPRS and WiFi support.
"The improved version of Aakash tablet will be available in retail outlets by January end," a spokesperson of DataWind told The Mobile Indian.
The tablet was to be made available in retail stores by the end of November. "The delay in the availability of the tablet has been due to upgradation in the tablet and some unforeseen delay in manufacturing," the spokesperson said.
To book and prebook student and commercial versions respectively of Aakash tablet, users have to visit DataWind's website and fill up the required form. In case of booking they will get a booking ID and a message which will state, "You will shortly receive an email confirmation from our support team with further details."
In case of pre booking users will get a confirmation message which will state, "The commercial version of the Akash UbiSlate 7 would be launched in early weeks of December. After the commercial launch we would get in touch with you to deliver your device as soon possible."
As a matter of fact, the confirmation message a reader will see is factually incorrect as The mobile Indian had reported earlier the Aakash tablet will be available only by January end.

Datawind has however not cleared how it is going to establish the identity of students who will book the cheapest version of Aakash tablet. When The Mobile Indian contacted spokesperson of Datwind he said, "Anyone can book the student version of Aakash tablet."
This defeats the purpose of providing students an affordable tablet as now anyone can place an order to get the tablet. Interestingly, now it has been revealed that the government has procured only 10,000 Aakash tablets for distribution in schools and colleges of the initial 1 lakh proposed.
It looks like the company was in a hurry to start the online booking process and has not done not proper homework before staring it.

Uninstall Windows 8 by removing VHD and get back Windows 7 Boot [Guide]

Out of curiosity, many of you have installed Windows 8 Bootable VHD. If you are already played enough around and claim back the space taken up by the installation and continue work with Windows 7 normally then, here is a guide to uninstall Windows 8 by removing VHD.

So lets just focus on the topic as to How to remove Windows 8 installed VHD file without affecting your System or HDD. It’s a tried and tested procedure so let’s go step by step and follow the article below to uninstall Windows 8 VHD.

1. Change Default OS to Windows 7

As you can see above, the screenshots are showing the Boot Menu of Windows 8. Here you have to change the default OS as windows 7 instead of Windows 8 Developer Preview. Either way, even if you are keeping your Windows 8 though I will recommend you to keep Windows 7 Boot loader, as its faster.
By this process your system will now be reading the boot menu of windows 7. Here we are almost done. Start Windows 7 and then restart your System. You must have to do this or it will not save the Boot Menu settings that you just changed. Now check which boot menu does your system load. It should load Windows 7 classic Boot Loader.

Windows 7 Boot Menu looks like this

If you are getting this Boot Menu then you are free to do the next step which is very easy, that is to Delete the VHD file in you HDD
After Deleting the VHD file your space is recovered now. You can check it in Disk-Management, there will not be any Unallocated Partition.

Removing the Windows 8 Developer Preview Boot Entry

Go to Start menu and search “msconfig” open it and you will have this Window as I have shown above. There you can see Windows 7 is my Default OS. You just have to select Windows Developer Preview and delete it. Select windows 7 as default if its not showing before deleting. Apply the settings and OK. Now restart your System and you will have a HDD free from Windows 8.
Though  the screenshots refer to Windows 8 Developer Build but it is expected that the procedure should work on all future build of Windows 8 as the concept of VHD remains same.
Note : This is the easiest way to remove Windows 8 installed VHD file. But before doing this process, you must have to define your default OS as windows 7 to your system.

Install Windows 8 using Bootable VHD without Formatting [Guide]

If you are still left who hasn’t tried Windows 8 yet. Then, Installing Windows 8 using VHD (Virtual Hard Disk). Virtual Hard Disk is a single file stored on current Windows 7 system and lets you dual boot Windows 8.

I know there are some working tricks already mentioned to install Widows 8 via VHD, but I am going through step-by-step as how I actually installed it without formatting my system. Little problems came during the process or I should say Doubts, that is what I am clearing here so you can get it installed without any risk to be taken during the process.
Windows 8 is compatible with Netbooks with Intel Atom processor. I have installed it in my HP Notebook and its working Smoothly. Lets begin the installation of Windows 8. Its simple but I need your full attention as a small mistake can cause serious damage to your Data in the HDD.

How to Install Windows 8 as Dual Boot using VHD

1. Create bootable USB

I am sure you know this procedure to create a Bootable USB drive. It’s straightforward using Windows 7 USB DVD Tool. You need a 4 GB USB flash drive. You can make Windows 8 Bootable USB Pendrive easily with SBB Tool.

2. Create VHD

After creating Bootable USB drive of Windows 8, Go to Disk Management [Right click on My Computer and click on Manage] then at the right side More Options and Create VHD. Now create a folder in your drive where at least 30 GB memory is free. It actually uses around 5 GB of space so don’t panic just do the steps as I have shown above.
Must select the Dynamically Expanding, it means that windows 8 will use only the space which is needed, rest will be free to use. After creating folder in your drive, don’t browse it. Just put the exact path for your VHD file. Its not important to just put it in a folder but its for the safety of your VHD file.

If you are right with the process, you must see the Unallocated space in Disk Management.
Okay now after this process, Restart you system and select USB as your first boot device.

3 : Attach VHD

After getting the installation screen, Do not select any drive ! Press SHIFT+F10 You will have a command prompt. Now put commands without any typing errors.

1 :  DISKPART> select vdisk file=H:\win8\win8.vhd
2 :  DISKPART> attach vdisk

Drive letter “H” may vary in your case.
After putting these commands, your command prompt must look like the Picture shown above. Here you are done. Now just go to the installation window and Hit refresh. It may take a few seconds but after that it will show you the Unallocated Drive. Select it and make a new partition. Click next to start installation.
Its a fully working way of installing Windows 8 & must follow the steps I have given. If any doubts leave your comments.

Note: When I can do it, you can also follow the steps accordingly and install Windows 8 VHD. My steps are correct and refers to what I implemented but Error may be sometimes on your side so be precise while commenting to get accurate solution.

Here Comes The World's Fist Coins With QR codes...!

People nowadays use credit and debit cards in order to purchase products. The use of coins for buying small things is fast diminishing and the use of currency notes has become more useful for people. As a part of giving these coins its old fame, the Dutch government have decided to make their coins a little more “high-tech”.
They have decided to produce a limited edition of QR coded coins, consisting of silver 5€ coins and gold 10€ coins. The coins will be available for the public from June 22nd.

The coins are now coded so as to take you to a Dutch government site. But according to the officials, once they are given to the public, the codes will link to a “surprise”. There is no real explanation to what the “surprise” from the codes may be. Anyway, let’s hope it may be something worth more money!!

The interesting part with the coin is that since the larger 10€ coin is only 33mm in diameter, the scanning will need some real practice. Take a look at the gold and silver coins with QR codes as shown below.

Duch Coins With QR Codes.

Only a limited number of coins will be initially QR coded, as in remembrance of the 100th anniversary of their national mint in Utrecht.

Even the U.S. produces some pretty high-tech currencies, but the bills are designed to oppose counterfeit money, not necessarily to morally improve the collectors or engage smartphone users. Also, since this is a brand new idea, they may even try to implement it on all their currencies and coins. Just think about the possibilities in business with coins that can be linked to the internet. If these coins can be QR coded and widely circulated among the people, National Mints could easily auction weekly leases on the QR Code redirect. They could make money for putting ads in the links that is obtained while scanning the coin.

Windows 8 Interface First Look: Comprises of Live Tiles and it’s Awesome.

When Windows 8 builds were leaked, I thought it will be just minor tweaking with the UI of Windows 7 but I was wrong. Microsoft surprised everyone by uncovering the Next Generation Windows 8 user interface which is really interesting and has resemblance with Windows Phone 7 Mosaic Tiles.

All applications and programs uses Live Tiles instead of icons on Start screen which lets them say something more and give more information. For example, a weather application will show Temperature on tile and on clicking it give further detailed information.

Windows 8 is Touch Device ready OS and the applications defined are of two types. One is Classic Windows which we saw in previous(Win 7) versions and Second made using HTML5 and Javascript.
One of the most interesting things about the UI of Windows 8 is the way can use two applications simultaneously. Because it is based on Windows 7, it is obvious it has multitasking. What is surprising is that the touch interface allows Windows 8 two applications to share screen at the same time, with just drag an application to the edge of the screen and leave a couple of seconds there, it automatically takes a “side panel” (something like Windows Aero Snap 7, but designed for tablets).

Furthermore, the transition between applications is well achieved. By simply moving your finger from one side to the center of the screen pass from one application to another. I will not say it is an excellent implementation Because Microsoft has not shown whether there is a provision to see once all open applications, Which is essential if we are talking about tablets or PCs, which should be extremely inconvenient to have to go through all the applications to reach one in particular (which is now with the sort of “carousel” that offers to change Windows 8 app).

Undoubtedly, Windows 8 is a complete breakthrough with the new application framework based on Web tools such as Silverlight, HTML5 and other equally modern and XAML.
The apps created for Windows 8 using these tools are simply stunning, catch the eye, and seem to offer a user experience first class. The good news is that, apparently, this step will without losing backward compatibility because in demos, we saw that it was able to run applications built for previous versions.
Here are the aspects of Windows 8 summarized below:
Quick launch apps from the tiles on the home screen, which replaces the “Start” menu. As in Windows Phone 7.
Dynamic tiles with notices, which always show relevant information from the application.
Convenient, intuitive switching between applications.
Improved Snap for easy snap windows to screen edges and change their size.
Web applications on HTML5 and JavaScript, with access to system functions.
Optimized for touch screens IE10.
Looking at the Interface, I feel that Windows 8 is built taking into consideration of Tablets (Touchscreen or non Touchscreen) but developer says that it will work perfectly even with Mouse and Keyboard.
Also, Windows Head stressed that Windows 8 is not a final name and didn’t announce any specific date for the release of Windows 8 but it is expected to be next year.

Direct Conversion Of Solar Energy Into Fuel..!!!

A chemist from Massachusetts institute of Technology (MIT) called Daniel Nocera was able to develop a solar powered device that could break water into its two basic components – hydrogen and oxygen. The device is no bigger than a playing card and is made from very cheap materials.
This prototype can be called the “Artificial Leaf” as it represents the same process of tree leaves which convert the sunlight into energy.
This artificial leaf consists of a combination of a solar cell and the device that is needed to conduct electrolysis. They are joined together as one piece and the solar cell is chemically painted with a catalyst and then immersed in water. The main use of the catalyst is to drive the main fuel producing reactions such as the reduction of COand oxidation of water. The prototype was only developed in order to mimic the conventional photosynthesis method that the tree leaves carry out.
When the energy that the fuel can store and its density is compared with the energy that is stored in batteries, it is way higher. This was one of the basic reasons for conducting such an experiment. Due to the success of this method, the future developments will be carried out by the Joint Center for Artificial Photosynthesis, which was formed mainly for this purpose. This project will be developed together by Lewis’ California Institute of Technology and DOE’s Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. For the purpose many researchers from two government labs and six universities have already been appointed.
As a development in the process, the main aim of these researchers will be to design a commercially successful solar energy to chemical fuel conversion system with high efficiency and life span. For the experiment, strong and photochemically stable light absorbers will be needed along with highly efficient catalysts.
